William VanWyk

William A. Van Wyk, 91, of Hingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. William was born July 28, 1921 in Eethen, Netherlands, to Arnoldus and Anna Pieternella (Lakerveld) Van Wyk. He graduated from Landbouw Agriculture School in the Netherlands in 1937. William was a survivor of occupied Holland during WW II. On June 2, 1948 William married Johanna Kuipers in Wijk en Aalburg, Netherlands. Three months later, William and Johanna immigrated to the U.S. Johanna passed away March 25, 2006. William worked for Richardson Lumber Co. in Sheboygan Falls from 1948-51. He then farmed from 1951-89, retiring in 1989. William was a member of the Hingham Reformed Church and the Wisconsin Farm Bureau. He loved his family and friends dearly. He also enjoyed traveling and visiting with people. William is survived by five sons, Arnoldus (Nancy) Van Wyk of Stone Mountain, GA, Arie (Sue) Van Wyk of Waldo, Henry (Linda) Van Wyk of Neenah, Anthony (Lou Ann) Van Wyk of Sheboygan Falls, Kenneth (Amy) Van Wyk of Waldo; eight grandchildren, David (Katy) Van Wyk, Vicki (John) Byrwa, Peter Van Wyk, Laura (Brett) Hoffmann, Matthew Van Wyk, Benjamin Van Wyk, Samuel Van Wyk, Mary Van Wyk; five great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Christopher Byrwa, Kailey and Brooklyn Hoffmann, and Damon Van Wyk; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, both in the U.S. and Holland. William was preceded in death by his parents; wife Johanna; two sisters, Maria Versteeg and Wilhelmina Bok; one brother, Pieter Van Wyk. Funeral services to celebrate William's life will be at 11:00 am on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Hingham Reformed Church with Rev. Steven J. Bakker officiating. Interment will be in Hingham Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet William's family from 2-5 pm on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. A memorial fund is being established in William's name for the Hingham Reformed Church and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. William's family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Pine Haven Christian Home and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.
