William A. Knapp, 68, of Sheboygan, passed away on July 8, 2014, at St. Nicholas Hospital. William was born on May 1, 1946, in Stanley, WI, son of Earl and Magdalena (Seidling) Knapp. He was a 1964 graduate of Stanley Boyd High School. William served in the US Army from 1964 - 1967. On April 17, 1971, he married Susan Vaningan in Eau Claire. William truly enjoyed his job as a government food inspector for the USDA for 41 years until his retirement in 2009. After retirement William was employed with Old Wisconsin. William enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren, who he always had candy for. William enjoyed his two dogs, Sam and Sophie. William is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan; his two sons, Brian (Nicky) Knapp of Sheboygan and Kevin (Melissa) Knapp of Sheboygan Falls; three grandchildren, Devin, Karter, and Keegan; two sisters, Betty Carlson and Joann Jackson; beloved mother and father-in-law, Don and Betty Vaningan; sisters-in-law, Carol Knapp, Teresa Vaningan, and Connie (Jeff) Vaningan; and brother-in-law, Mark (Lori) Vaningan and their sons. William is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. William was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Earl Knapp, three sisters, Lucille Bursh, Marie Gamble, and Jackie Kiraly, two brothers-in-law, Duane Carlson and Virgil Gamble. A visitation at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls will also take place on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 12-4pm. Funeral services to celebrate William's life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Smith Funeral Home (2222 London Road) in Eau Claire. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of service at 2:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in William's name.
