Willard Grotenhuis

Willard H. Grotenhuis DDS, 100, of Sheboygan Falls died on Thanksgiving evening, November 27, 2014. Willard was born on April 2, 1914, the son of Henry and Adrianna (VanDriest) te Grotenhuis. He graduated from Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove and then attended Lakeland College and Carroll College in Waukesha. Later he received his doctorate in Dentistry from Marquette University in Milwaukee. Willard served in the US Army during World War II from 1943-46. On November 5, 1933 he married the late Hazel DeMaster. Hazel preceded him in death on May 30, 1999 following 65 years of marriage. Willard was a dentist in the Sheboygan Falls area for 39 years prior to his retirement in 1976. Willard was an active and devoted member of the First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls where he served as deacon, elder, and many other committees and service projects. He was also a member of the Sheboygan Falls American Legion. Willard enjoyed fishing, traveling, gardening and woodworking. Willard is survived by two daughters, Gail Klaasen of Holland, MI and Sue (Jack) Pikaart of Zeeland, MI; two sons, Paul (Toni) Grotenhuis of Rhinelander, and Richard (Doris) Grotenhuis of Suamico; ten grandchildren, Tim (Leslie), Tom (Joanna), Matt (Catherine) and Robb Grotenhuis, Kevin (Christie) Klaasen, Bill (Ellie Smith) Klaasen, Sarah Kapenga, Jen (Corey) Jackson, Beth (Garth) Rotman, Melissa (Jon) Gunnink; 26 great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Lillian TeGrotenhuis of Cedar Grove, Marian TeGrotenhuis of Oostburg, Dorothy DeMaster of Sheboygan Falls; and one brother-in-law, Howard (Joan) DeMaster of Shawano. Willard is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; one sister Eileen (Carl) Lentz; and two brothers, Milford and Wayne Te Grotenhuis. A funeral to celebrate Willard's life will take place at the First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 10:30 am with the Rev. Brad Veenendaal and Rev. David Van Dixhorn officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow at Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Sunday, from 2-5 pm, and on Monday, at church from 9:30 am until the time of service at 10:30 am.
