Wilfred Gesch Sr.

Wilfred Gesch Sr., 92 of Cedar Grove, passed away on Thursday morning, July 30, 2015, at Cedar Grove Gardens. Wilfred was born on June 4, 1923, in Franklin, son of Martin and Louise (Schreiber) Gesch. He was a 1941 graduate of Sheboygan Central High School and attended Sheboygan County Normal Teaching School and UW-Oshkosh. He received his Master's degree from UW-Milwaukee. Wilfred served in the USAAF from 1943-1946. On April 10, 1943, he married Elinore Voskuil in Cedar Grove. Elinore passed away on April 15, 2011. Wilfred was employed as a teacher with Parnell, West Oostburg, Cedar Grove, and Lincoln School in Sheboygan. He was also employed as principal at Cooper, Cleveland, Lyman, and Lincoln Erdman Schools. Wilfred was a member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove for over 70 years, where he served in the choir, as choir director, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, elder, and trustee. He was a member of numerous educational organizations. Wilfred enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, bicycle repair, Bible studies, and singing in the church choir. He especially enjoyed all family and church activities. Wilfred is survived by his five sons, Wilfred Jr. (Kay) Gesch of Cedar Grove, Curtis (Betsey) Gesch of Telkwa, BC, Jeffrey (Jerilyn) Gesch of Cedar Grove, Brian (Kathy) Gesch of Cedar Grove, and Kevin (Gwen) Gesch of Cedar Grove; 21 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. Wilfred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 68 years, Elinore, an infant daughter, two grandsons, Joshua and Jeff Gesch, and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services to celebrate Wilfred's life will be at 11:00 am on Monday, August 10, 2015, at Calvary OPC with Rev. John Tinsley officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm and also at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. A memorial fund has been established in Wilfred's name for the Oostburg Christian School.
