Wesley Olson

Wesley L. "Wes" Olson, 82, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Woodland Manor. Wes was born on October 21, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN, son of Stanley and Gladys (Gaard) Olson. He was a 1950 graduate of Colfax High School. After graduation he and a friend went to Chicago to work. Wes found employment at DuPont for a year and then was drafted into the US Army and spent time in Korea. He was discharged from the Army in October of 1953 and went back to DuPont in Chicago to work. On February 27, 1954, he married Barbara Shipman in Bloomer, Wisconsin. They continued to live in Chicago and later in Des Plaines, IL. In 1956 they moved to the Milwaukee area, where Wes attended Milwaukee School of Engineering. He also continued his education with other vocational classes in the evening over the years. Wes was employed as a Cost Improvement Administrator for Louis Allis/Magnetek for 30 years. Wes and Barbara celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 2004 with family and many friends. Wes was an active member of Grace Communion International Church in Milwaukee, where he served as a Deacon. He and Barbara enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Wes had a passion for designing and building a wide variety of things. His major accomplishments include home remodeling, building a three-car garage, and notably designed and built a camping trailer specifically for the purpose of pulling with a subcompact vehicle. He also enjoyed sketching, gardening, fishing, ice skating, swimming, playing cards, games, and dancing polkas and waltzes. Wes is survived by two daughters, Joy (Ken) Cryer of Leesville, LA and Judy (Michael) Offutt of Sheboygan Falls; one son, Steven Olson of Knoxville, TN; eight grandchildren, Nicolle, Jeremy (Amber), Ryan, Shannon, Janelle (Austin), Deanna, Melissa, and Ian; two great-grandchildren, Antonio and McKenzie; two brothers, Merlin (Dorothy) Olson of Powell, WY and Fred (Annette) Olson of Webster, WI; two sisters-in-laws, Tresa Olson of Gilbert, AZ and Sharon Olson of St. Paul, MN. Wes was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Barbara; his parents; and three brothers, Mark (Lola) Olson, Dale Olson, and Stuart Olson. Funeral services to celebrate Wes' life will be held at 4 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls. Burial will be in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 3 pm until the time of the service at 4 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Wes' name for Alzheimers and Related Disorders.
