Wayne A. Vander Waal, 65, of 416 North 12th Street, Oostburg died peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, January 2, 2011 following a five year illness. Wayne was born on January 1, 1946, in Sheboygan, the son of the late William and Esther (Davies) Vander Waal. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1964 and then served in the US Army Reserves from 1965-71. On July 30, 1971, he married Sharon Van't Hul in Leota, MN. Wayne worked at the Kohler Co. for four years before his retirement in 2008. Previously he had worked at Tecumseh Die Cast in Sheboygan Falls of 39 years. Wayne, along with his wife, served as custodians for the Oostburg Christian School for over 15 years. Wayne was a lifelong member at Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg where he served as deacon, trustee, usher and was a member of the Men's Society. Wayne was a member and officer of the Oostburg Historical Society. He enjoyed genealogy, collecting coins and model tractors, gardening, doing home improvements, and Bible study. He and Sharon enjoyed traveling, which included two trips to Europe. Wayne is survived by his wife, Sharon; three sons, Derrick (Joe'l) Vander Waal of Sheldon, IA, Troy (Sanna) Vander Waal of Oostburg, and Brian (Roseena) Vander Waal of London, England; seven grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jenna, Una, Elsi, Anya, and William, and Ayanna Vander Waal; four sisters, Joan (Ronald) Walvoord of Cedar Grove, Phyllis (Wayne) Heideman of Lake Zurich, IL, Linda (Paul) VanEss of Plymouth, and Patricia VanderWaal of London, England; his mother-in-law, Wilma Van't Hul of Leota, MN; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Leland) Vanderaa of Edgerton, MN and Nancy (Milo) Van Dyke of Chandler, MN; and one brother-in-law, Roger (Donna) Van't Hul of Pipestone, MN. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and father-in-law, Gerben Van't Hul. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Bethel OPC with the Rev. John Tinsley officiating. A family service will precede at 12:45 pm in the fellowship hall. Burial will follow at Hartman Cemetery in the Town of Wilson. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 4:30 - 8 pm, and on Saturday, at church, from noon until the time of the service.
