Wayne TeGrotenhuis

Wayne O. TeGrotenhuis, 89, of Oostburg died peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, April 26, 2014. Wayne was born on September 9, 1924 in Cedar Grove the son of the late Henry and Adrianna (Van Driest) TeGrotenhuis. Wayne graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1942. On July 14, 1949 he married Marian Smies in the Town of Holland. Wayne was a crop farmer for all of his life and founder of the Grove Charcoal Co. with his brother, Milford. Wayne was a lifelong member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where he served as deacon, elder, trustee and a member of the Men's Society. He also served on the Pine Haven Christian Home Board of Directors. Wayne enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, hunting and being outdoors. Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian; one daughter, Carol (Gary) Hesselink of Oostburg; three sons, David (Pam) TeGrotenhuis of Cedar Grove, John (Barbara) TeGrotenhuis of Cedar Grove, and Mark (Pam) TeGrotenhuis of Oostburg; ten grandchildren, Eric Hesselink, Tannie (Tyler) Holschbach, Jenna (Wes) Thompson, Rochelle (Mathew) Schueller, Donelle (Felma) Degefa, Nicole (Austin) Montanez, Stacey TeGrotenhuis, Kevin TeGrotenhuis, Aaron TeGrotenhuis and Jill (Chris) Suess; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Willard Grotenhuis of Sheboygan Falls; and one sister-in-law, Lillian TeGrotenhuis of Cedar Grove. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Eileen (Carl) Lentz; and one brother Milford TeGrotenhuis. A celebration of Wayne's life will take place at a funeral service to be held at the Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 with the Rev. Ronald Beabout officiating. Burial will follow at the Oostburg Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Family and friends will gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday, from 4-8 pm, and at church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am.
