Wayne Lubbers

Wayne M. Lubbers, 77, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Wayne was born on October 6, 1935, in Gibbsville, son of Rev. Raymond and Alice (Vandenberg) Lubbers. He attended Gibbsville Elementary School and was a 1954 graduate of Oostburg High School. Wayne served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956, serving his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood in MO and stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in VA. On June 28, 1957, he married Donna Mentink in Oostburg. They celebrated their 55th Anniversary this year. Wayne was employed as a truck driver with Schneider Transport for 28 years, and received a 2 Million Mile Safe Driver Award. Prior to that, he worked as a Pipeline Heavy Equipment Operator with Gabes Construction. Wayne and Donna resided near Leesburg, FL. While there, Wayne worked as a tour bus driver, limo chauffeur, and trolley driver for The Villages Community in Florida. He also drove the church bus for First Presbyterian Church in Leesburg, FL. Wayne was member of First Presbyterian Church in Leesburg, FL. He was a member of the Teamsters, and served on the Homeowners Association Board at the Spanish Village Community in Leesburg. He enjoyed boating, camping, and motorcycling. Wayne and Donna traveled all 48 states. Wayne was a loving husband and father, and a very proud grandpa and great-grandpa. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna; his daughter, Sherry (Rick) Rammer of Sheboygan Falls; his son, Roger (Judy) Lubbers of Casper, WY; four grandchildren, Amanda (Ryan) Groh, Kelly (Noah) Weckwerth, Nick (friend Brianna Gerk) Lubbers, and Brenda Lubbers; one great-grandson, Axsten Groh; one sister, Irene Nyhof of Oostburg; and one brother, Kenneth Lubbers of Sheboygan; mother-in-law, Edna Mentink of Sheboygan Falls. Wayne is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Frederick Lubbers, two sisters, Lucille Ludens and Margaret Wensink, father-in-law Walter Mentink, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. A memorial service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. John Ornee officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Inurnment will take place in Gibbsville Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service on Saturday. A memorial fund has been established in Wayne's name.
