Wayne M. Bruggink, 67, of 239 South 6th Street, Cedar Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday night, December 5, 2010 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. Wayne was born on July 25, 1943 in the Town of Holland, son of the late William and Ethel (Lammers) Bruggink. He was a 1961 graduate of Cedar Grove High School and attended UW-Sheboygan and MIT in Milwaukee. On June 20, 1964 he married Joan Meerdink in Cedar Grove. Wayne was a banker for Wells Fargo for over 40 years, managing banks in Sheboygan, Sheboygan Falls, Plymouth and Cedar Grove. He retired in 2004. Wayne was a lifelong member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where he served as deacon, elder, and trustee. He was a volunteer fireman with the Cedar Grove Fire Dept for over 40 years. Wayne was an avid softball player and coached Little League for many years. He also enjoyed card playing, fishing, hunting, water skiing and spending time outdoors. He and his family have many happy memories at the cabin in Pembine and fishing trips in Canada. He and his wife recently completed a long motorcycle trip on their Harley. Wayne was a faithful grandpa, attending almost every sporting event of his grandchildren. Wayne was survived by his wife, Joan; one daughter, Sue (Dan) Nett of Oostburg; one son, Rob (Michele) Bruggink of Cedar Grove; five grandchildren, Rachel and Josh Nett, Kyle, Jackie, and Liz Bruggink; two brothers, Ronald (Marjorie) Bruggink of Gibbsville and LeRoy (Nola) Bruggink of Florida; two brothers-in-law, James (Beth) Meerdink of Cleveland, Ohio and Ronald (Bobbie) Meerdink of Wild Rose. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Virginia Meerdink. A celebration of Wayne's life will take place at a funeral service to be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Ronald Beabout officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Wednesday from 4-8 pm, and on Thursday, at church, from 9:30 am until the time of the service.
