Warren B. Navis, 95, of 317 W. Union Ave, Cedar Grove passed away with his loving family at his side on Friday afternoon, July 22, 2011, at Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center. Warren was born on January 8, 1916, in the Town of Holland, the son of Henry and Delia (DeBruine) Navis. He attended the Wisconsin Memorial Academy in Cedar Grove. On September 16, 1937, he married Hazel Schreurs in Cedar Grove. Hazel preceded him in death on July 13, 2004. Warren was Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of Cedar Grove for 32 years before his retirement in 1978. Warren saw many changes during his years serving the public works department. Previously he worked in the brass division at the Kohler Co. for 11 years. Warren was a charter member of the Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove. There, he served on the building committee and as a deacon. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, traveling and his family. Warren was blessed with a long and fulfilling life, and he enjoyed his 95 years immensely. Always ready with a quick response and witty remark, he made many friends during his countless visits to area restaurants where he enjoyed many cups of coffee, a lot of steaks (rare), and endless good-natured kidding around with waitresses. Warren loved to take his patented "Navis Rides" throughout the area, and even in his later years he still enjoyed cruising the country roads in his beloved Buick. Warren is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann (Donald) DeHaai of Cedar Grove; two sons, Richard (Mary) Navis and Larry (Lynn) Navis, both of Cedar Grove; nine grandchildren, Michael (Doris) DeHaai, Terry (Jennifer) DeHaai, Patti (Carl) Claerbout, Dawn (Tom) Hameister, Jill (Paul) Klos, Pamela (Michael) Deppiesse, Sherri (John) Morgan, Kris (Jon) Sass, Chad (Heather) Navis; 24 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two brothers-in-law, Roland TenHaken of Oostburg and Don Heser of Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, LaVern Schreurs of Oostburg and Lorraine (Sam) Huibregtse of Cedar Grove; and a special friend and sister-in-law, Lillian Schreurs of Cedar Grove. Warren is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; a great grandaughter, Gina Deppiesse; a great grandson, Brayden Morgan; two brothers, Harold and Ernest (Elvira) Navis; one sister, Betty TenHaken; a sister-in-law, Alma Heser; and a brother-in-law, Myron Schreurs. Funeral services to celebrate Warren's life will be held at the Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove at 10 am on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, with the Rev. Earl Slotman officiating. Burial will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday from 4-8 pm, and on Tuesday, at church, from 9 am until the time of the service at 10 am.
