Walter Erwin Alfred Peters, 68, of Sheboygan Falls, entered the glory of heaven on Monday evening, May 21, 2012 at Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Sheboygan where he resided since March. Walter was born on October 30, 1943, in Manitowoc, son of Walter Peter Henry and Edith Ida Anna (Zastrow) Peters. He graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School, Milwaukee Lutheran College and Concordia Teacher's College in Seward, Nebraska. Walter served as DCE (Director of Christian Education), principal, and teacher in Michigan, Washington, and California. He also worked for World Book/Childcraft in California and Iowa, Northwestern Mutual and Thrivent (formerly AAL) Insurance and Community Action in Iowa. He was a nursing home administrator in Kansas and at Pine Haven Christian Home from 1997 until his retirement in 2002. Walter was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as a grief counselor, on the church council, and as an usher. He was a member of the Sheboygan Falls Kiwanis Club. Walter enjoyed playing cards, traveling, music, and computers. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. Walter is survived by his wife, Joyce; one daughter, Lisa (Tom) Baier of Kansas City, MO; one son, Todd (Jill) Peters of Dakota Dunes, SD; one grandson, Caden Peters; and one sister, Sharon Klabunde of Sheboygan. Walter is also survived by nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Donna (Paul) Myers; one infant brother, Roger Peters; and brother-in-law, Jerry Klabunde. A funeral service to celebrate Walter's life will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 25, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Mark Janzen officiating. Burial will take place in Lutheran Cemetery in Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and also at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of service at 10:00 am. A memorial fund has been established in Walter's name for Multiple Sclerosis Society, Sheboygan Lutheran High School, and St. Paul Lutheran Church.
