Walter M. Keippel, 95, of Cascade, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the Plymouth Care Center, with his wife and step-daughter at his side. Walter was born on April 8, 1917, in Chicago, IL, son of Frank and Marie (Mantsch) Keippel. Walter married Hattie Boos in Chicago, IL on January 11, 1943. Hattie preceded him in death on January 12, 1991. He married Vivian Gebhard Herr on May 15, 1994, in Cascade. Walter was the former owner/operator of Glenview Quality Market. He retired in 1972. Walter was a veteran of World War II, having served in General Patton's Lucky Forward Third Army. He then served under General Buckner 10th Army on Okimawa and Le Shima, Japan. He was a S/Sgt. in the military police. Walter was a member of the American Legion Post 386 in Cascade and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8400 in Land O' Lakes, WI. Walter is survived by his wife, Vivian; one son, Lee of Clovis, CA; one daughter, Gail of Tampa, FL, and one daughter-in-law Roberta of Palatine, IL; four grandchildren, Kurt (Sandra) Keippel, Heida (Stephen) Flowers, Erica Jacobie, Jason (Jenny) Keippel; great-grandchildren, Madison Flowers, Jacob and Ashley Keippel, Jaida Jacobie, and Marisa Coulter. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Sandra (James) Brooks and Linda (Richard) Schipper; three step-grandchildren, Barry (Toby) Brooks, Ronald (Rebecca) Schipper, and Robert (Tracy) Schipper; and five step-great-grandchildren, Samantha, Jennifer, Allison, Jordyn, and Kimberly Schipper; and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by one son, Donald, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur (Ruth) and John (Mary) Keippel. Private family services will be held to celebrate Walter's life at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls with Pastor Richard Bidinger of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cascade officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Sheboygan Falls with full military honors. A memorial fund has been established in Walter's name for Alzheimer's Association.
