Viola VanStelle, 93, formerly of Oostburg, passed away on Wednesday night, October 19, 2011 at Pine Haven Christian Home. Viola was born on December 22, 1917 in the Town of Lima, the daughter of the late Abram Edward and Henrietta (Rauwerdink) Heinen. Viola graduated from Gibbsville Grade School and was a 1935 graduate of Oostburg High School. Viola then attended the Sheboygan Business College. Viola worked as a legal stenographer at the Sheboygan Law Office working with Attorneys Whiffen and Walter for over 30 years. Viola married James VanStelle on November 24, 1969 in the Town of Lima. James preceded her in death on September 16, 1984. Viola was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg and was an active supporter and volunteer there. She was a member of the Women's Mission Society and a volunteer at the former Sheboygan County Comprehensive Health Care Center. Viola was very interested in maintaining close relationships with her family and friends, always interested in their lives. She was an avid letter writer to many relatives and friends throughout the United States. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and documented those travels by scrapbooking. Viola and her husband enjoyed wintering in Arizona and Florida for many years. She enjoyed music, playing the piano, word search games, other puzzles, and camping. Viola was always appreciative and dear to her family. She is survived by two step daughters, Katie (Robert) TenPas of Oostburg, Jeanette (Rev Donald) Taws of Hendersonville, NC; one step son, Harold (Joyce) VanStelle of Waunakee; three step daughters-in-law, Marlyse VanStelle of Oostburg, Sophie VanStelle of Sheboygan, and Ruth VanStelle of Tucson, AZ; one step son-in-law, Glenn (Mary) Dulmes of Sheboygan Falls; 29 step grandchildren; many step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren. Viola is also survived by a niece, Mary (Robert) Grambsch of Tucson, AZ and a nephew-in-law, Dan Krueger of Plymouth. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, James VanStelle; a sister, Dorothy (Hilbert) Scholten; a granddaughter, Kiki Taws; a niece, Edith Krueger; one step daughter, Cora Dulmes; three step-sons, Matthew (Dorothy), James, and Donald (Caroline) VanStelle. Funeral services to celebrate Viola's life will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 3 pm at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place in Gibbsville Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday from 5-7 pm, and on Tuesday, at church, from 2-3 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Viola's name for the First Reformed Church and Pine Haven Christian Home.
