Thomas "Tom" Franklin Hawe, 93, of Waldo, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. Tom was born on July 7, 1918, in Mendon, IL, son of Thomas E. and Nanny (Emory) Hawe. He was a graduate of Canton High School in Canton, MO and attended Culver - Stockton College also in Canton. Tom served in the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant Pilot in WW II from 1941-1945. On June 2, 1943 he married Delores Salm in San Antonio, TX. Tom owned and operated a mink ranch in Oostburg and Hawe Hunting Preserve in Waldo until his retirement in 2012. Tom was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls. He was a past president of Kettle Moraine Mink Association and The North American Game Bird Association. Tom was a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, writing, singing, playing softball, traveling in his RV, bird watching, and was an avid hunter. Tom will always be remembered as a hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was devoted to family and was a pillar of the community. Tom loved to read and debate, and was a role model and mentor to many. Tom is survived by his wife of 69 years, Delores; eight daughters, Jeannie (Ralph) Hilbelink of West Bend, Dianne Hawe of Appleton, Pearl Hawe of Las Cruces, NM, Mary (Russ) Melius of Steamboat Springs, CO, Laurie Hawe of Chevy Chase, MD, Ann Hawe of Sunbury, OH, Susan (Marc) Parent of Stroudsburg, PA, and Lisa (Dr. Charles) Cohan of Saylorsburg, PA; one son, Thomas J. Hawe of Zephyr Hills, FL; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Hawe of Hartford; one brother, John Hawe of Port Washington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy (Jan) Lewis; one grandson, Ford Thomas Cohan; one son-in-law, Mike Steitz; one sister, Bessie Stemerdink; and two brothers, C.B. Hawe and Emory "Bud" Hawe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held to celebrate Tom's life at 12:00 pm on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Interment will take place in St. George Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Wilson with full military honors. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Tom's name for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
