Thomas G Bloomingdale, 76, of Cedarburg and formerly of Cedar Grove, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017. He was born December 29, 1940 to Floyd and Mary Bloomingdale. Tom was raised by his beloved foster parents John and Cornelia Winkelhorst of Cedar Grove. Tom was raised in the peaceful village of Cedar Grove and graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1959. He was a hardworking individual allowing him to achieve many awards for his accomplishments. He was the captain of the first Cedar Grove football team, varsity baseball team and was a sprinter in track and field events. After high school he attended UW-Oshkosh graduating with a teaching degree in Biology. Later he attended UW-Milwaukee and earned a Master's Degree in both Guidance and Administration. Tom taught 1 year in both Oostburg and Plymouth, then was the principal for Beechwood School for 1 year, after which he spent over 25 years in Whitefish Bay teaching 7th grade biology. Later in his career he became the school guidance counselor for many young adults. He was adored and respected by all of his students. Tom was a member of the Ozaukee Congregational Church, board member of the North Shore YMCA, founding member of the Wisconsin Buck and Bear Club and a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Bow Hunter's Association. Tom was an avid outdoorsman promoting hunting and fishing by showing future enthusiasts how to respect the environment. He was a true teacher both in the classroom and in the field. He has always understood that we all return to where we have come from and to seek peace in God. He is survived by two daughters, Tara Bloomingdale of Trevor and Kirsten Bloomingdale of Cedar Grove; one son, Nathan (Dawn) Bloomingdale of Nederland, CO; six grandchildren, Colleen Bloomingdale, Justin Bloomingdale, Christopher Bloomingdale, Shauna Bloomingdale, Margret Turchinski, and Nick Wessel; two great grandchildren Anyanessa and Mykol; and beloved companion, Bonnie Bloomquist; brothers and sisters, Jim, Al, Mary, Audrey, Nancy and Sue. He is preceded in death by his foster parents; his parents; two brothers, John Bloomingdale and LeRoy (Arlene) Winkelhorst. A funeral service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, with Rev. Joel Fredrickson officiating. A burial will take place at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4-7 pm, and on Thursday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
