Sylvia J. Wassink, 76, of W4281 S. County Road A, Waldo, went home to her Lord early on Saturday morning, December 18, 2010 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. Sylvia was born on April 12, 1934 in Vesper (Wood County) Wisconsin, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Holstein) Dykstra. She graduated from Waldo High School in 1952. On June 29, 1957 Sylvia married Eugene Wassink in Hingham. Sylvia was a lifelong member of the Hingham Reformed Church where she was an active volunteer, Sunday School teacher, and member of the Crusaders, Mission Circle and volunteered with the Service Committee. She was also a member of the Homemakers Club. She enjoyed going out for breakfasts, gardening, bird watching, bicycling, bowling, traveling, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Eugene of Waldo, two daughters, Cheryl Velier of Oostburg, and Julie (Mark) Arentsen of Cedar Grove; two sons, James (Julie) Wassink of Sheboygan and Tom (Ginny) Wassink of Kimberly; eleven grandchildren, Michelle and Ryan Velier, Matt (Tanya), Steve, and Rebecca Arentsen, Ross Eggebeen, Ashley (James) Rambousek, Carly Eggebeen, McKenzie Wassink, Ethan and Ben Wassink; two great grandchildren, Braeden and Madelyn Rambousek; one sister, Marge (John) TenDolle of Sheboygan Falls; four brothers, Ralph "Rudy" (Beverly) and Gerald (Lillian) Dykstra, both of Hingham, Robert (LouAnn) Dykstra of New Brighton, MN, and John (Linda) Dykstra of Holland, Michigan; and three sisters-in-law, Minnie Dykstra of Hingham, Nancy (Paul) Wagner of Howards Grove, and Marlene Wassink of Sheboygan Falls, She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jeffrey Velier; four brothers, Cornelius (Bernice), Henry (Elsie), Sid and Willard Dykstra. A celebration of her life will take place at the Hingham Reformed Church on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at 1:30 pm with the Rev. Steven J. Bakker officiating. Burial will follow at the Hingham Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday from 4-8 pm, and on Tuesday, at church, from 12:30 pm until the time of the service.
