Sylvia J. McDaniel, 90, formerly of Oostburg, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Sylvia was born on November 30, 1921, in the Town of Holland to Peter and Lila (Beernink) Oostdyk. She was a 1939 graduate of Oostburg High School and received her Master's degree in teaching. Sylvia taught for over 30 years, retiring in 1986. On August 28, 1942 she married Ray Rademaker at their home in Oostburg. Ray died May 22, 1964. On December 27, 1967, she married George Lavey at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sheboygan George died October 27, 1982. In 2001, she married Frank McDaniel in Showlo, AZ. Frank died in January, 2003. Sylvia was a member of First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove. She played violin and piano in various musical groups. Sylvia enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She liked water color and oil painting, playing cards with her friends in her card club, and fishing with her brother Peter. Sylvia is survived by: one daughter, June Heit of Pewaukee; one son, Dean (Carol) Rademaker of Hollandale, WI; three step-daughters, Sharon Zappe of Fort Collins, CO, Mary Lavey of Louisville, KY, Madeline (Richard) Goone of Sierra Vista, AZ; four step-sons, Jim (Denise) Lavey of Colorado, Tim (Debbie) Lavey of Orlando, FL, Robert Lavey of Colorado, George Jr. (Sue) Lavey of Enid, OK; five grandchildren, Cammie and Derek (Jennifer Brody) Heit and Matt (Ana) Rademaker, Scott (Treva) Rademaker, and Joshua (Kathryn) Rademaker; five great-grandchildren, Brielle, Rowan, Lilia, Finley, and Ainsley Rademaker; twin sister, Anita Daane of Oostburg; three brothers, Dale Oostdyk of Fairview Heights, IL, Phillip (Shirley) Oostdyk of Sheboygan, and Peter III (Lois) Oostdyk of Plymouth; brother-in-law, Vern (Rachel) Rademaker of Oostburg. Sylvia is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and husbands. Memorial services to celebrate Sylvia's life will be at 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Justin Sembler and Rev. David Van Dixhorn officiating. Inurnment will be in Hartman Cemetery in the Town of Wilson. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service Saturday, April 21, 2012, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Sylvia's name for First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove.
