SueAnn E. VanEss, 88, formerly of Oostburg, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 9, 2011 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center surrounded by her family. SueAnn was born on December 23, 1922 in the Town of Holland, daughter of the late Edwin and Cora (Westerbeke) Lammers. She was a graduate of Oostburg High School. On December 12, 1941 she married Howard S. VanEss in Oostburg. Howard preceded her in death on December 23, 2009. SueAnn was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg. She was active in the choir, directed the junior choir, and was a member of the Ladies Circle. SueAnn was also a Bible study leader, custodian, and Sunday school teacher. SueAnn enjoyed music, flowers, gardening, baking, and the Green Bay Packers. She also enjoyed writing narrations for plays and skits, spending time with her family, and attending her grandchildren's activities. SueAnn is survived by her daughter, Judy (Wayne) Meerdink of Oostburg; her son Jack (Jody) VanEss of Oostburg; a daughter-in-law, Janice VanEss of Oostburg; ten grandchildren, Sherry (Tom) Buehler, Lori (Randy) Huibregtse, Shelly (Tim) Kaat, Jeff (Nicole) Meerdink, Jon (Kami) VanEss, Jay (Jill) VanEss, Justin (Tracy) VanEss, Jordan (Shannon) VanEss, Lindsey and Courtney VanEss; several great & great-great-grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Arline Lammers of Oostburg, Margaret (Erwin) Hendrikse of Oostburg, Lenore LeMahieu of Oostburg, Nelda VanEss of Sheboygan Falls, Helen VanEss of Oostburg and Donna VanEss of Oostburg; one brother-in-law, Lloyd (Dorothy) VanEss of Plymouth. SueAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, a son Kenneth, a sister Eunice (George) Joosse, two brothers Le Roy Lammers and Eugene (Marjorie) Lammers. A memorial service to celebrate SueAnn's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Inurnment will take place in Hartman Cemetery at a later date. A gathering for family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in SueAnn's name.
