Steven Roger VanEss, 55, of Kingsport, TN, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 3, 2017 at his home.Steve was born On October 9, 1961 in Sheboygan to Roger and Sue (Evanoff) VanEss. Steve was a 1980 graduate of Cedar Grove High School, attended the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, and later completed his IT degree at Northeast State in Tennessee. Steve married Penny Campbell on October 23, 1982, they had two sons together. Steve worked for 35 years in the IT department for Eastman Chemical until his retirement on May 10, 2017.Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, dog breeding, gardening, he was known for his huge lilies, koi ponds and indoor aquariums. He had a love for animals, especially his dogs and pheasant farm. Steve also enjoyed cooking, known for his smoked ribs and pulled pork. Steve was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and Nashville Predators Hockey.Steve is survived by two sons, Benjamin VanEss of Kingsport, TN and Nicholas (Jennifer) VanEss of Jonesborough, TN; his dad, Roger VanEss of Cedar Grove; sister, Brenda (Jerry) Depies of Cedar Grove; brother, Calvin (Jean) VanEss of Belgium; mother of his sons, Penny VanEss of Kingsport, TN; nieces and nephews, Kiera Depies of Minneapolis, MN, Kaili Depies of Mequon, Nolan VanEss of Belgium and Logan Depies of Cedar Grove; aunts and uncles, Beatrice VanEss, Lois VanEss, Chris Evanoff, George (Janis) Evanoff and John Evanoff. He is further survived by numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Sue VanEss; nephew, Jonah John VanEss; uncles and aunts, Alvina, Harvey, Gladys, Irvin, and Phil VanEss and Vincent and Barbara Baker. Funeral services will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery in Kingsport, TN and again at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 6pm. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the church on Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4pm until the time of service at 6pm.A memorial fund is being established in Steve's name.For additional information and online condolences please visit www.wenigfh.com The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg (920-564-2771) is assisting the VanEss family with arrangements.
