Steve H. Amundson

SHEBOYGAN - Steven H. Amundson passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 7, 2023. He was 59 years old.

Steven was born March 9, 1964 in Marshfield, the son of Albert and Elaine (Hanson) Amundson. He and his 7 siblings grew up on the Amundson Cranberry Marsh in Babock, Wisconsin. Steven graduated from Pittsville High School in 1983. 

On December 31, 1988, he was united in marriage with the love of his life Theresa Hammelman on his family’s cranberry marsh. 

A caregiver at heart, Steven began his working career as a CNA at an assisted living facility in Iowa County. He would go on to help care for the health needs of his family members. Caring for family, friends and strangers alike was a common thread throughout his entire life; he had an ability to sense the needs of those around him, and served anyone and everyone he could.

An animal lover, Steven spent much of his life in farming and agriculture where he developed a deep connection with the animals he worked with, and the ability to truly know them. He and Theresa had hobby farms while living in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Minnesota where he loved horse training, horse dentistry and was a skilled horse farrier. He raised sheep, chickens, farm working dogs, show dogs, and vegetables for local farm markets. The animals he trained, assisted and raised brought him great joy.

An avid artist, Steven especially enjoyed oil, water and acrylic painting as well as charcoal horse drawings. He loved reading, and walking on the lakeshore beach where he could enjoy the sunrise. 

Steven is survived by his wife of 35 years, Theresa Amundson and his siblings: Nancy (Allan) Cattanach of ND, Wanda Amundson of IL, Carol (Bob) Chavez of CA, Paul (Susan) Amundson of WI and David (Jill) Amundson of WI; mother-in-law Gloria Hammelman of MN; brother-in-law David Peaslee of WI; sister-in-law Greta (GR Svenddal) Hammelman of MN; many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Steven; other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his sisters Susan Rees and Marlene Peaslee, mother Elaine Amundson, father Albert Amundson, and father-in-law Timothy Hammelman. 

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Sheboygan Evangelical Free, 1710 N. 15^th St. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 12:30-1:30PM.

Steven will be laid to rest at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in his name.
