Shirley H. Penick, 84, passed away peacefully at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, in Sheboygan Falls, on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Shirley was born on August 24, 1931 to Joseph and Clara (Buczko) Herrmann in Spring Valley, Illinois. She was a graduate of Hall Township High School, Class of 1949. Shirley was united in marriage to Frederick C. Penick on August 21, 1954 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Spring Valley, Illinois. Worked as a typist at the then named, ‘Daily-News Tribune', from 1948-1951. She worked in the admitting office, and served as patient accounts manager, at St. Margaret's Hospital, Spring Valley, Illinois from 1951-1970. Her attention to detail, and hard work ethic promoted her to the position of Patients Accounts Manager at St. Mary's Hospital in LaSalle, Illinois from 1970-1977. She returned to work at St. Margaret's Hospital as Business Office Manager, retiring in 1990. She served as an enumerator with the US Bureau of Census in 1990 and 2000. She enjoyed reading, collecting recipes, cooking, cross-stitch, sewing, and traveling to all 50 states. She loved planning menus and cooking for family gatherings. Shirley is survived by her 2 children, son, Frederick C. Penick Jr, (Tracey Strunk) of Danielsville, PA. daughter, Penny (Lyle) Ten Pas, Oostburg; 4 grandchildren, Preston (Amie Shipe), Francesca, and Zachary Penick, and Mackenzie Strunk; 5 Great Grandchildren, Rocco and Vivian DeLucia; Zakayla, Rylee, and Silvana Penick; 1 sister Marlene (Donald) Klug, Ladd, IL, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter, Annie Penick; husband, Frederick C. Penick Sr.; daughter-in-law Silvana Penick, mother-in-law, Bertha Penick; parents, and sister, Loretta Kern. Shirley will be inurned at Rock Island National Cemetery with her late-husband at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, W2850 Hwy 28, Sheboygan Falls, WI on Saturday, June 11th at 1 pm, with visitation preceding services from noon to 1 pm.
