Sally Bakkom

August 20, 1926 — October 15, 2015

Sally Ann Armitage Bakkom, aged 89, passed away on October 15th, 2015, at Cedar Grove Gardens Assisted Living Center in Cedar Grove, Wisconsin. She was born on August 20th, 1926 in Waukesha, Wisconsin to David and Gladys Armitage. Sally grew up in Waukesha, and graduated from Waukesha High School in 1944. She was always on the look-out for others from "the class of ‘44". We can only imagine the fun the group must have had together for them to hold such a special place in her heart. After high school, she attended Prospect Hall studying secretarial work, and then worked at Waukesha Motor Works - she tried to lead us to believe she ran the Motor Works! Sally married Dick Bakkom in 1950. They followed Dick's job with International Harvester around the East Coast and Midwest. With each move, Sally re-established a home and friendships for her family. Sally volunteered at hospital, the Cedar Grove Library, and as a church secretary. In Arlington Heights, IL, she worked for several years as the secretary to the chaplain's office. Her son David of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; and her daughter, Susan Thompson of Waukesha, Wisconsin, survive Sally. Susan's husband, Scott, and their daughters, Emily and Kirstin join Susan and David in fond memories of laughter, silliness, and warmth shared with Sally. Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Dick, in 2000. Dick and Sally enjoyed camping, curling, gathering with friends, adoring their granddaughters, and gazing out at Lake Michigan. A visitation will be held at Sally and Dick's beach home they built in retirement. Sally's son David lives there now, and will host, on October 31st, a time for friends to gather and celebrate the fun that was Sally. Please contact David at 920-668-8079 for details. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Cedar Grove Public Library, Cedar Grove, WI, where Sally volunteered for many years. Condolences may be left in the Online Tributes section at http://www.wenigfuneralhome.com/home.html.
