Ruth L. Van Driest, 93, of 406 North 12th Street, Oostburg, died at her home on Wednesday afternoon, January 14, 2009. Ruth was born on October 14, 1915 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late William and Alma (Wiesner) Herrbold. She moved to Sheboygan in 1924 and graduated from St. Paul Lutheran School and Sheboygan Central High School in 1933. She was a 1936 graduate of Sheboygan Business College. She married the late Ellsworth Van Driest on June 28, 1941 in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1992. Ruth worked at W. T. Grant, Van's Foods, and was assistant cashier at the Oostburg State Bank for 14 years prior to her retirement in 1975. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg, the Women's Circle, Thursday Morning Ladies Bible Coffee, and a regular attendee of the Adult Sunday School. She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Bill) Hopeman of Hingham; one son, Keith 'Skip' (Carol) Van Driest, of Oostburg; two granddaughters, Allison (Bill) McKeone and Lindsey Van Driest; two great-grandsons, Beckett and Quinlan McKeone; one sister-in-law, Helen (Sid) Wiesner of Hot Springs, Arkansas, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and a nephew. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 3 pm with the Rev. Walter Hackney officiating. Entombment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson.
