Ruth Myers

Ruth L. Myers, a caring wife, mother and grandmother passed away with her loving family and dog at her side on October 5, 2016 at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. Ruth was born on December 4, 1928 in Douglas, Wisconsin to the late Adolf and Lettie (Griffin) Wedde. She married the love of her life, Everett L. Myers on March 4, 1950 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They lived in Waupun for many years before moving to Horicon in 1963. They later moved permanently to their cottage on John's Lake near Wautoma. For the last ten years, Ruth lived summers at the lake and winters in Sheboygan Falls. Ruth had worked throughout high school at the local A&W and Ben Franklin store in Waupun to support herself and her family. Ruth graduated from Waupun High School in 1946. After her marriage she became a mom and she decided to stay at home to raise her children until they all started school. Ruth then started a career working within the Marketing Department for John Deere. She put her great math skills to work and became a master at scheduling and load building of shipments. She had a gift for doing math in her head, no calculator was ever needed. Her loyalty to John Deere never wavered. Her family often teased her about having yellow and green blood. When Ruth retired from Deere she was asked to come back to teach and mentor others. She later went on to work side by side with her husband, Everett and son, Stephen at Myers Manufacturing Inc. Their business became known for great customer service, quality tool and die and as an innovative pulley supplier to many established companies, including Deere. Ruth enjoyed playing cards and was a profound bridge player. She enjoyed playing in several bridge clubs in Horicon for decades. She established life-long friendships with many of her fellow bridge players. Ruth loved nature, planting flowers and watching humming birds. Her favorite place was at John's Lake where she enjoyed taking a quiet cruise around the lake on the pontoon boat. Ruth enjoyed going to the Princeton Flea Market and started an annual tradition of attending an Amish quilt auction that went on for decades with her daughter, Vonda. Ruth also enjoyed traveling and would travel with Everett to many places. Some of her favorites included; Hilton Head, SC., Desert Springs, CA. Orlando, FL., and Estes Park, CO. One special trip was going to Senonches, France to visit Horicon's sister city while Everett was mayor. She also enjoyed an unforgettable cruise with Everett and local friends to Hawaii. Her family was a very important part of Ruth's life and she enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended their school concerts, musicals, dance recitals and countless soccer games despite the weather. She enjoyed being there for baptisms, birthday parties, graduations and weddings. Ruth also loved her friends and stayed in contact by sending cards, going out for lunch and calling them for no particular reason. Those that she was very fond of include; Boots, Lu, Bill & Delores, Jayne, Betty & Gerry, Lucy, and Hubie. Her friends were always there for her and for that her family is so thankful. Ruth had a true love for dogs. She had many over her life and they all had their special place in her heart with life-long memories. There was GG, Sissy, Mandy, Hershey, Abby and currently her best friend and companion, Riley. Ruth's love for animals went well beyond her own pets. She was a gracious contributor to the Humane Society and believed in and supported their cause. We know Ruth knew that Riley came to visit her and snuggled up with her while she was in hospice care. Ruth was a loyal sports fan and watched her favorite teams; the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Wisconsin Badgers. She enjoyed going to the Badger games with friends and especially enjoyed the fifth quarter band performance. If she wasn't watching these sporting events, it was common for Ruth to be watching the golf channel. She never missed watching a major golf tournament. Ruth is survived by two children; her son, Stephen (Mary Ann) Myers of Pewaukee and Vonda (Rick) Tomlinson of Sheboygan Falls. She is survived by eight grandchildren, Robin (Joel) Lucas of New Berlin, Jennifer (Mathias) Meyer of Wauwatosa and Anthony (Vanessa) Myers of Oconomowoc, Kathryn Tomlinson of Madison, Hailey Tomlinson currently at UW-Lacrosse, Makayla Tomlinson currently at UW-Oshkosh, Taylor Tomlinson currently at UW- Madison and Sydney Tomlinson a freshman at North High School in Sheboygan. Ruth is further survived by six adorable great grandchildren; Olivia and Liam Lucas, Natalie and Allison Meyer and Jacob and Owen Myers. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Darlene Heideman, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Adolf and Lettie Wedde and her in-laws; Jacob and Sadie Myers, her husband Everett and her oldest daughter, Vicky Jo, who tragically died too young in a car accident. Ruth will be remembered as a generous soul who donated and contributed to improvements for many hospitals and many charitable organizations. She helped friends and family financially when they were in need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ruth's name to the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice of Sheboygan Falls, the Dodge County Humane Society or the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center. The family will be celebrating Ruth's life with a private service at her favorite place in this world, John's Lake. Her favorite songs from Dr. Zhivago, Fiddler on the Roof, and the Sound of Music will be played in remembrance of her. We will remember her love for Mickey Mouse and the Charles Schultz Peanuts gang. Most of all we will remember her as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
