Ruth Mentink

Ruth M. Mentink, 76, of Cedar Grove went home to her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, September 15, 2012 at Sunny Ridge Health Center where she had resided for the past week. Ruth was born on February 5, 1936 in Hingham, the daughter of the late Derwin and Mabel (Wynveen) Neerhof. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1954. On September 21, 1956 she married Ronald Mentink in Cedar Grove. Ruth worked at the Larson Canning Factory, Cedar Grove Public Schools cafeteria, Musebeck Shoe Factory, and the Dutch Crust Bakery. Ruth was a lifelong and devoted member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member, and member of the Ruth Society, mission and funeral lunch committee. Ruth enjoyed gardening, crocheting, sewing, baking, and tending to her violet plants. Ruth is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ronald; one daughter, Lynn (David) Johnson of Wheaton, IL; two sons, Tedd (Terri) Mentink of Oostburg, and Tim (Rosemary) Mentink of Cedar Grove; five grandchildren Krystle (Luke) Mills, Karrie (Luke) Kaat, Derek Johnson, Alexandra and Alyssa Mentink; five great grandchildren, Ellodie and Blayke Mills, Kayden, Kolten, and Paxton Kaat; and one brother Derwin "Dick" (Mary) Neerhof of Port Washington. A celebration of Ruth's life will take place at the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove at 3 pm on Wednesday with the Rev. Ronald Beabout officiating. A private family burial service will take place at Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland on Wednesday PRIOR to the church service. Family and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Tuesday from 4-8 pm, and on Wednesday, at church from 2:30 pm until the time of the service at 3 pm. The Mentink family would like to express their appreciation to the staffs of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, and Sunny Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center for the dedicated care given to Ruth and their family.
