Ruth Gasser

Ruth Norma Gasser, 94, of Sheboygan Falls, went to be with her Savior on Sunday afternoon, January 20, 2013, with her daughters by her side at Pine Haven Residential Home in Sheboygan Falls. Ruth was born on March 5, 1918, in Sheboygan Falls, daughter of Herbert and Anna (Hayner) Roepke. When Ruth was 8 months old, her mother died. Her father later married Elsie Guelzow who was a loving stepmother to her. Ruth was raised in Milwaukee where she attended parochial and public schools. On March 2, 1940, she married Joseph Gasser of Kohler at Zion Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They lived in Kohler since 1946. Joseph preceded her in death on January 5, 2006. Ruth was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler. She served on the altar guild and attended many Bible classes. She also served with the American Red Cross as a nurse's aid and canteen worker. Ruth enjoyed league bowling for many years. She loved bowling and playing Scrabble. Her cheery smile and lovable personality brought joy to many people. Ruth is survived by her children, Marlene (Carlos) Reif of Kiel, and Judy (Brian) Ramaker of Montgomery, TX, Mary Ann Fibiger of Kohler, and Robert (JoAnna) Gasser of Sheboygan; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph; her parents; her only sister who died at an early age, LaVerne (Earl) Van Erden; two grandsons, Scott Wieck and Joseph Horneck; and step-mother, Elsie Guelzow Roepke. Funeral services to celebrate Ruth's life will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kohler with Rev. Robert Steele officiating. Entombment will take place in Garden Terrace Mausoleum in Sheboygan. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls and also at the church on Thursday from 9:30 until the time of the service at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ruth's name for Bethany Lutheran Church and The Gathering Place, a program for people with memory loss.
