Russell Meyer

Russell W. Meyer, 87, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 28, 2010 at Plymouth Care Center where he had resided since April. Russell was born on January 1, 1923 in the Town of Farmington in Washington County, son of William and Lucile (Birkett) Meyer. He was a graduate of Oostburg High School. Russell was in the US Naval Reserves during WWII. On June 26, 1945 he married Viginia Nysse in Plymouth. Virginia preceded him death on April 27, 2010. Russell was a lifelong farmer in the Town of Holland and worked at Allen Edmonds Shoe Company for many years until his retirement. Russell was a member of the VFW - Post 9156 in Sheboygan. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing with his grandchildren and playing cards and pool. Russell is survived by one daughter, Sandra (Allan) Leider of Plymouth; one son, William (Carol) Meyer of Waldo; four grandchildren, Jed Leider, Calen Leider (Lindsay Nelson), Scott (Lisa) Meyer and Penny (Tim) Dunn; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Graven of Hartford and Juanita Simmelink of Peoria, AZ; one brother, Kenneth Meyer of Cedar Grove; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Ruth) Nysse of Oostburg and Anton Nysse of Conover. Russell was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his parents, infant great-grandson, Joshua Dunn, two sisters-in-law Leona Hulbert and Viola Meyer and three brothers-in-law Ervin Nysse, Harley Simmelink and Raymond Graven. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 until the time of the service at 11:00 am. A memorial fund has been established in Russell's name for VFW Post 9156.
