Rose Duenk

Rose A. Duenk, 90, of Cedar Grove, passed away on Friday morning, April 10, 2015, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Oostburg. Rose was born on June 19, 1924, in the Town of Holland, daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Meengs) Wissink. She was a 1942 graduate of Cedar Grove High School. During WW II Rose was employed by Sheboygan County and later with the Dr. Grunewald Medical Clinic and the Gates Rubber Co. in Sheboygan. On October 22, 1955, she married Marvin K. Duenk in Cedar Grove. Marvin passed away on August 21, 2006. Rose and her husband were owners of Standard Printing and the Upper Room Christian Bookstore, in Cedar Grove for 30 years until their retirement in 1985. Rose was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where she was active in Mary- Esther Circle and as a Sunday school teacher. She was member of a sewing club and the Christian Booksellers Association. Rose was a Holland Festival volunteer and organizer and also volunteered her time with the TeRonde Museum. Rose enjoyed reading, genealogy, travel, gardening, and will be remembered as a community historian. Rose is survived by her daughter, Nancy Niesing of Howards Grove; her son, Dr. Larry (Patti) Duenk of Cedar Grove; four grandchildren, Jessica and Kimberly Niesing, and Sarah and Michael Duenk; and one niece, Shirley VanStelle of Sheboygan. Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Marvin, her brother, Douglas (Lillian) Wissink, and her sister, Evelyn Wissink. Funeral services to celebrate Rose's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Kent Vant Hul officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday, April 13, 2015, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm and also on Tuesday from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 1:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Rose's name for First Reformed Church and Campus Life.
