Ronald Edward Huibregtse, age 82, of Oostburg, died at the Senior Community Center in Sheboygan on Tuesday morning, February 5, 2008. Ron was born in Oostburg on September 1, 1925, a son of the late Harry and Susanna (Daane) Huibregtse. He was a 1943 graduate of Oostburg High School and attended Lawrence University for a year. He served in the US Navy during WWII from 1943-46. On December 20, 1946, he married the former Genevieve Lammers in Oostburg. For 17 years, from 1950 to 1967, Ron owned Huibregtse Hardware Store in Adell and from 1967 to 1983 he was owner and editor of the Lakeshore Weekly. He was a member of the 1st Reformed Church in Oostburg, Gideons International, the American Legion Hartman - Lammers Post #286 and a charter member of the Oostburg Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed woodworking, biking, traveling and spending time with his family. Along with 61 years of marital bliss, life was always a wonderful excuse for a 'Huibregtse Happening.' Be it, a huge family gathering or a simple Sunday lunch, Ron loved to keep family and friends near. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve, 2 daughters, Jane (Larry) Shaver of Hingham and Julie (Greg) Radke of Washburn, 3 sons, Don (Barb) Huibregtse of Stevens Point, Mike (Terri) Huibregtse of Sheboygan and Jeff (Andrea) Huibregtse of Kohler, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer (Joel) Sohre, Joshua (June) Shaver, Valerie Huibregtse, Anna and Allison Radke, Eric Anderson and Joe Ferencz, 3 great-grandsons, Kade Anderson and John and Jeremy Shaver, a great-granddaughter Kaelyn Sohre and a sister-in-law LaVerne Wieberdink of Cedar Grove. A funeral service will be held for Ron on Friday, February 8, 2008, at 2:30 PM, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with the Reverend Wayne Tripp officiating. Ron's cremains will be buried in Oostburg Cemetery. Friends may call the Wenig Funeral Home, 108 Center Avenue, in Oostburg, on Friday, from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Gideons International and the Alzheimer's Foundation.
