Ronald Lee Haartman, 84, of Sheboygan, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

Ron was born on May 20, 1940, to Oscar and Iris (Koeppe) Haartman in Sheboygan. He graduated from Oostburg High School. Ron was united in marriage to Beverly Hesslink on August 11, 1961, at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove.

Ron attended Sheboygan County Teachers College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor’s in education. His teaching career started at a middle school in Kenosha County before moving back to Sheboygan County. Ron taught for many years in the Sheboygan School System, as well as Cleveland, Port Washington, and Random Lake schools.

Later in life, he drove semi-trucks, locally in Sheboygan driving to Chicago and even found time to help troubled children through a local counseling center.

Ron enjoyed flying his Piper Cub airplane with his friend, Squeaky. He was an avid Packers and Badgers football fan and loved a good Western movie. Ron enjoyed woodworking, leatherworking, electronics, construction, and being outdoors.

Ron was a member of Bethany Reformed Church in Sheboygan. For many years, he taught middle and high school Sunday school, serving mostly as elder and also deacon.

Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly; son, Scott (Cindy) Haartman of Duluth, MN; grandchildren, Genevieve and North Haartman; sister, Barbara (Mike) Graefe of Idaho; siblings-in-law, Gloria (Harlan) Portschy, Renee (James) Roerdink, Jay (Bonnie) Hesslink; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Todd and two other infant children.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Ron’s life at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 3:00pm. Ron will be laid to rest at Hartman Cemetery at a later date. A livestream of the service may be viewed by visiting Ron’s obituary page at wenigfh.com.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at the funeral home from 1:00pm until the time of service.

Memorials are appreciated in Ron’s name to Bethany Reformed Church or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
