Roland W. Veenendaal, 86, of Sheboygan Falls, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday evening, May 18, 2015, at Pine Haven Covenant Home while surrounded by his family and friends. Roland was born on March 12, 1929, in the Town of Lima, son of Walter and Arlie (Dulmes) Veenendaal. He was a 1947 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School and received his Bachelor's degree from the Sheboygan County Business College. Roland served honorably in the US Army from 1951 - 1953 during the Korean Conflict. On July 26, 1958, he married Mary Harmeling in Hingham. Roland was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service for 25 years until his retirement in 1990. He also worked as a bus driver for seven years and was previously owner of Falls Monument. Roland was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as an elder, deacon, usher, Sunday school treasurer, and sang in the choir. He served on the Pine Haven Christian Home Board of Directors. Roland enjoyed family activities, vacations in northern Wisconsin, and the outdoors. He also enjoyed card playing, crossword and word search puzzles, traveling, bowling, dartball, camping, sports, and yard work. Roland is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary; his daughter, Beth Veenendaal of Sheboygan Falls; his two sons, Brian (Alisa) Veenendaal and Bradley (Shannon) Veenendaal, both of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Rachel Veenendaal, Katie (Halle) Jennerman, Tyler Ross, and Makenna and Bryson Veenendaal; two great-grandchildren, Devon and Aniah Ross; one sister, Ruth (David) Clement of Menomonee Falls; two brothers, Paul Veenendaal of Sheboygan and LaMont (Nancy) Veenendaal of South Elgin, IL; one sister-in-law, Betty Harmeling of Oostburg, and one brother-in-law, Dr. Mark (Miriam) Harmeling of Santa Barbara, CA. Roland is also survived by special family and many friends, including Wayne and Mert Reimes, Wanda DeZwarte, Evie Frausto, and Krystal Lampe (Ariyon and Asiah). Roland's family would like to extend a special thank you to Brian and Sarah DeMeyere (Joshua and Matthew). Roland was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services to celebrate Roland's life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and also on Saturday at the church from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Roland's name for the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice and Pine Haven Christian Communities.
