Roland W. Jensema, 86, of Oostburg died on Sunday morning, May 6, 2012, at Pine Haven Christian Home where he had resided since March. Roland was born on November 24, 1925, in the Town of Lima, the son of the late Henry and Clara (TenDolle) Jensema. He attended Horace Mann School in the Town of Lima. Roland served in the US Army. On June 23, 1950, he married Carol Veenendaal in Gibbsville. Roland and Carol owned and operated a dairy farm in the Town of Lima from 1951 until 1973. He also worked for the Cooperative Exchange in Cedar Grove for 15 years until his retirement in 1990. Roland was a lifelong member at the Gibbsville Reformed Church where he served as a deacon, elder, usher and sang in the church choir and men's chorus. He was also a member of the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau. Roland enjoyed playing cards, golf, bowling, softball, snowmobiling, traveling, gardening, and attending his grandchildren's activities. Roland is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol; two daughters, Faye (Phil) Mentink of Oostburg and Bonnie (Scott) Ongna of Gibbsville; two sons, Gary (Jane) Jensema of Gibbsville and Phil (Sue) Jensema of Hingham; 14 grandchildren, Adam (Kasy), Tyler, and Travis Mentink, Jamie (Jay) Hubbard, Nate (Cassie) Ongna, Stephanie (Mike) Brasser, Jackie (AJ) Laganowski, Todd (Christy) Jensema, Sally (Brian) Willoughby, Paul (April) Jensema, Jennifer (Lance) Wulf, Jessica (Chris) TenHaken, Elissa (Paul) Retkowski, Jessica (Kevin) Dekker; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, LaMont (Marlys) Jensema of Oostburg; five sisters-in-law, Marie Jensema of Oostburg, Florence Jensema of Sheboygan, Edith Damkot of Oostburg, Muriel (Wayne) Reimes of Gibbsville and Beverly (Dennis) Diener of Oostburg; and one brother-in-law, Donald Veenendaal of Cedar Grove. Roland was preceded in death by two sisters, Luella (Trestor) Bloemers and Gladys (Ernest) Lammers; and two brothers, Ellsworth and Donald Jensema. A funeral to celebrate Roland's life will take place at the Gibbsville Reformed Church on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 10:30 am with the Revs. John Ornee and Gerald A. Dykstra officiating. A family prayer service will be held in the choir room at 10:15 am. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson.
