Roland G. Gilles, 86, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Roland was born on September 23, 1929, in Alma Center, son of Martin and Lena (Ripp) Gilles. He graduated from high school in 1947. After high school he farmed with his father and took over after his father's retirement. In 1952 he met the love of his life, Veronica Hytry and they were married in 1955. In 1969 they left the farm, moved to Sheboygan Falls and he began working for the Kohler Company for 23 years until his retirement in 1995. After retirement, Roland and Veronica enjoyed spending the winters in Florida. Roland was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as an usher for many years and worked on various committees. He also volunteered many years with the Sheboygan Falls Food Pantry and was a member of the Kettle Square Dance Club. Roland enjoyed woodworking, using his chain saw and stocking up wood for the fireplace. He had an appreciation for the land and enjoyed taking care of his large garden and most of all he loved his family and his home. Roland is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Veronica; his three daughters, Anne Marie Thomas, Charlene (Dr. Robert) Lyon, and Sara (Kari Kraus) Gilles; his one son, Stephen (Lisa) Gilles; grandchildren, Melissa, Seth and Molly Gilles, Emily, Paul, Mitchell and Suzanna Thomas, Elise, Donovan, Christopher, Gregory and Rachel Lyon; one sister, Delores Powers and two brothers, Mike Gilles and Dave (Helen) Gilles. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Paul and Andrew Gilles, his son-in-law, Michael Thomas; brother-in-law, Kieran Powers and sister-in-law, Gloria Gilles. A Memorial Mass to celebrate Roland's life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Bob Lotz officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Saturday from 8:30 am until the time of service at 10:30am. A memorial fund has been established in Roland's name.
