Roger TenHaken

Roger A. TenHaken, 67, of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls following his battle with cancer. Roger was born on February 22, 1945 in Sheboygan, the son of Melvin and Marion (Hendrikse) TenHaken. Roger graduated from Oostburg High School in 1963 and entered the US Army where he served in South Korea from 1964-69. While serving in South Korea, he met his future wife, Kyong "Kay" Cha O. One year after returning from Korea, he was able to bring Kay to the United States. They were married on October 26, 1965. Kay preceded him in death on April 23, 2009 following her battle with cancer. The Lord blessed Roger with another companion to share his life with. He met Kathleen Goldman of Kohler who became his fiancé in 2010. Roger was a deputy sheriff in the patrol division for the Sheboygan County Sheriff Dept. for 28 years, from 1971 until his retirement in 1999. Roger was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, watching sports and attending his grandchildren's activities. Roger is survived by two sons, Allan TenHaken of Milwaukee and Dennis (Kristen) TenHaken of Oostburg; three grandchildren, Marissa, Sydney, and Braden TenHaken; two sisters, Joan Greiling of Wake Forest NC, and Dianne (Richard) Staabs of Sheboygan. Roger will be dearly missed by Kathy Goldman and her children, Todd (Chris) Preder of Sheboygan and Tricia (Derek) Powell of Belgium; and her grandchildren, Sammy and Malayna Preder. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Kyong "Kay"; his parents, and his son, Dale TenHaken. Funeral services to celebrate Roger's life will be held at 3:30 pm on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Friday from 4-7 pm, and on Saturday, at church, from 2:30 until the time of the service. A memorial fund has been established in Roger's name for the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Center.
