Roger D. Meerdink, 67, of 224 Hillcrest Court, Sheboygan Falls and formerly of Oostburg, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls. Roger was born on August 16, 1944 in Sheboygan, son of Elmer and Henrietta (Gabrielse) Meerdink. He was a 1961 graduate of Oostburg High School and graduated from Kendall School of Design in Grand Rapids, MI. On June 26, 1971 he married Michele Leighton. Roger served in the Wisconsin National Guard for 22 years. On September 9, 1988 he married Phyllis (Munroe) Villiard in Sheboygan Falls. Roger was a sales associate and office design specialist for EBi Business Interiors for the past 17 years until the time of his death. Roger was a member of First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he served as an elder, usher, sang in numerous special choirs and was instrumental in the development of the Prayer Garden. He was active in Gideons International, TREA, and a past member of the Sheboygan Falls Kiwanis and Sheboygan Falls Chamber - Main Street. Roger enjoyed gardening, home remodeling projects, travel and his grandchildren. Roger is survived by his wife of 22 years, Phyllis; four daughters, Kimberly (Steven) Beeck of Sheboygan Falls, Rebecca (Ralph) Perez of Port Washington, Kelly Villiard of Sheboygan and Kathryn (Randal) Berger of Stoughton; one son, Jason (Joeli) Meerdink of Madison; eight grandchildren, Karlie, Tyler and Julia Beeck, Elijah, Eva and Elaina Perez and Isabella and Lola Meerdink; three sisters, LaVerne Gabrielse of Oostburg, Eileen (Jim) VerDuin of Sheboygan and Luann (Dale) TenPas of Oostburg; one brother, Arvin (Doris) Meerdink of Oostburg; and two sisters-in-law, Arlene Meerdink of Denver, CO and Marguerite (Bob) Lewis of Muskego. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Muriel (Martin) DeVriend, a brother, Eugene Meerdink and his brother-in-law, John Gabrielse. Funeral services to celebrate Roger's life will be at 10:30 am on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Brad Veenendaal officiating. Burial and military honors will take place at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday, at the church, from 9:30 am until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established in Roger's name for First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls and Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
