Robert J. Swart, 67, of Hingham, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at his home after a short and courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Robert was born on November 20, 1947, in Sheboygan, son of William and Elizabeth (Dekker) Swart. He was a 1966 graduate of Oostburg High School. Robert served in the US Navy during Vietnam from 1967-1969. On November 27, 1971, he married Joan Bimmel at Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan. Robert was employed as an equipment operator for the Sheboygan County Highway Department, operating the center liner amongst other duties for 36 years until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement he drove school bus for Otte Bus Company until February 2015. Robert was a lifelong member of Hingham Reformed Church, where he served on consistory as Deacon, Elder, Vice President, and Clerk. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent and on various taskforces and committees. He served in the Trinidad Church Ministry and the Hingham Cemetery Association. Robert enjoyed woodworking, gardening, reading, camping, traveling and loved telling jokes. Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joan; his daughter, Corrie (Daniel) Goodine of Sheboygan; his son, Eric Swart of Grafton; his grandson, Logan Goodine; two sisters, Miriam (Ralph) Heideman of Hingham and Bonnie (John) Peter of Brandon, FL; and three brothers, David (Barbara) Swart of Pine Island, MN, Philip (Carla) Swart of Sheboygan, and Gerald (Susan) Swart of Sheboygan Falls; two sisters-in-law, Mary (Duane) Jenner of Fort Pierre, SD and Jane (Stephan) Crusan of Perry, IA; one step brother-in-law, Michael (JoAnn) Kupsch of Plymouth. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Erna Bimmel, father-in-law and step mother-in-law, Ronald and Margaret Bimmel, step brother-in-law, David Kupsch. Funeral services to celebrate Robert's life will be held at 11am on Monday, June 29, 2015 at Hingham Reformed Church with Rev. Steven Bakker officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery in the Town of Lima with Military Honors. Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday from 3pm until 7pm and also at the church on Monday from 10am until the time of the service at 11am.
