Robert Pohl

Robert H. Pohl, 95, of Milwaukee, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Sheboygan Senior Community. Bob was born on September 8, 1921 to Herman and Louise (Koplin) Pohl in Milwaukee. He is a 1939 graduate of Milwaukee Boy's Tech High School. Bob served his country in the United States Navy from 1942-45, serving in the Pacific Theater during WWII. On May 24, 1944 he married Dorothy Materna, she preceded him in death on April 19, 2005. Bob worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a fireman and then the Milwaukee School District as a school engineer until his retirement in 1983. Bob enjoyed woodworking, car restoration, vegetable gardening and had passion for history and railroads, especially steam engines. Bob is survived by one daughter, Margaret Pohl of Sheboygan; and one son, Eric (Eileen) Pohl of Mt. Kisco, NY. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; one son, Robert; and one sister, Doris (Franklin) Thomas. A private family service is being held at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, with burial to follow. Memorials can be made to The American Alzheimer's Association in Robert's memory.
