Robert L. Piehl, 74, of Sheboygan, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.Bob was born on January 10, 1944, in Hutchinson, MN, to Alvin and Ruth (Miller) Piehl. Bob served his country in the United States Army, serving 3 ½ years in Vietnam, then stationed at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, with the 82nd Airborne Division. Bob was a radio tele-type operator and jump master, retiring from the US Army after serving 20 years. During his years of service, Bob was a Green Beret, Gold Wing and a recipient of a Bronze Star, five Good Conduct medals, three Army commendation medals, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Cross Gallery Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with seven campaigns, Vietnam Service Medal, NCL Academy Medal, Centennial Gold Wings and Master Jump Wings. He made 350 parachute jumps and was a participant on May 16 - 30, 1967 in Spain for a joint exercise, Pathfinder Express, a combined U.S and Spanish Field Exercise. After his retirement he resumed responsibilities at home and took care of his mother and was a beloved bus driver in Hutchinson, MN.  Bob later went on to driving truck, and met the love of his life, Mary. On April 28, 1990, Bob and Mary were married in Hutchinson, Minnesota. In 1993 they moved to Sheboygan to raise their family.       Bob was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sheboygan, where he served as an elder and trustee. Bob had a magnetic personality and was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved spending time with his family and adored his children and grandchildren.Bob is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, James (Shandi) Blum and Joel Piehl, both of Sheboygan; five grandchildren, Brook (her mom, Stevie McKenna), Noah, James, Chloe and Vincent; sisters and brothers, Patricia (Robert) Waldner of Riverdale, IA, JoAnn Bezore of Henderson, NV, Cindy (Clint) Christensen of Hutchinson, MN, Linda (Terry) Schmidt of Bettendorf, IA, Kim Piehl of Eagen, MN, David Piehl of Long Grove, IA and Pam (Steve) Forcier of Buffalo Lake, MN; mother-in-law, Joyce Dawson of Boca Raton, FL; and brother-in-law, Mark Wutt of Indianapolis, IN. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eugene Piehl and Gary Piehl; and father-in-law, Robert Wutt.A funeral service to celebrate Bob's life will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1634 Illinois Ave., Sheboygan.
