Robert J. Mentink, age 83, of 143 Van Altena, Cedar Grove, died late Saturday evening, October 18, 2008, at St. Nicholas Hospital Hospice in Sheboygan. Robert was born in Cedar Grove on October 3, 1925, a son of the late James and Esther (Roerdink) Mentink. He was a graduate of Cedar Grove High School and served his country in the US Army during WWII from 1943 - 1944. On March 15, 1945, he married the former Ethel W. DeBruine in Cedar Grove. For many years Robert was the maintenance supervisor at the former Dean Foods in Cedar Grove. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove where he served as Elder and Deacon. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Cemetery Committee and served on the Planning Commission for the Village of Cedar Grove. He was a member of the Cedar Grove American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and spending weekends in Eagle River Survivors include his wife Ethel of Cedar Grove, his sons, Dale (Jane) Mentink, Richard (Mary) Mentink and Mark (Pam) Mentink all of Cedar Grove, his grandchildren, Paul Mentink, Nicole (Carl) Velzke, Ryan Mentink, Lindsey and Erich Mentink, Mindy (Matt) Wilcox, Melissa (Corey) Aponte, Melanie, Michelle and Mallory Mentink, great-grandchildren, Grace and Jamison Velzke, Ellie and Kate Wilcox and Ethan and Nolan Aponte, a sister, Jean (Gus) Geschke of Fort Worth, TX, a brother Ellsworth Mentink of Sheboygan Falls, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a sister-in-law, Cora Mentink. A funeral service will be held for Robert on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at 1:30 PM at the First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with the Reverend Kent Vant Hul, officiating. Burial will take place in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church, 237 South Main Street, on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at 1:30 PM A Memorial has been established in Robert's name.
