Robert E. (Bob) Mannchen, 91, of 206 Third St., Sheboygan Falls passed away at his home on Sunday, January 23, 2011. Bob was born on November 19, 1919 in Kohler, to Otto and Anna (Weber) Mannchen. Among his many interests as a youth, he was actively involved in scouting, where he earned the Eagle Scout Badge with Three Palm Leaf Clusters; a very high achievement then and now. Upon graduation from Kohler High School in 1937, he joined Kohler Co.; in the purchasing department. He worked at Kohler for his entire career, retiring from the Engine Division in 1983 following 44 years of service. Bob served in the US Army during WWII. He enlisted in 1941 and was stationed in Trinidad, British West Indies, until his honorable discharge in 1946. Bob worshiped at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Sheboygan where he also served on the finance committee. He belonged to the Kohler Quarter Century Club, Sheboygan Falls Lions Club, Sheboygan Falls Volunteer Fire Department, Isaac Walton League, Maywood Environmental Center, and the American Legion Post #149; serving as treasurer of each organization. Bob had a variety of interests that kept his mind and hands busy all year round. In the spring and summer months, he was often camping, fishing or tending his gardens. In fall, he turned to small game hunting and following the Packers and the Badgers. Winter months were occupied by taxidermy; preserving trophy fish, game and birds for family and acquaintances alike. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, playing cards and Scrabble, and was a crossword puzzle king par excellence. On June 9, 1945, Bob married Verl Busch of Sheboygan Falls. His wife of 65 years survives him. Together, they have four children, Karen (Bruce) Grimm of Potomac, MD, Morgan (Carol) of Nashville, TN, Brian (Jan) of Moyock, NC and Tim (Kristine) Mannchen of Savage, MN. Bob is further survived by seven grandchildren, Elisabeth "Lisa" Grimm of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Nichole (Paul) Soolay, Patrick Mannchen and Victoria Mannchen, all of St. John's Newfoundland, Canada; Michelle Mannchen of Madison, Danielle Mannchen of Minneapolis MN and Nichole Mannchen of Savage, MN; two great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Paul Soolay of St. John's Newfoundland; one sister-in-law, Jane Busch of Sheboygan Falls; and one brother-in-law, Robert Leight of Grafton. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Mannchen; one sister, Shirley Leight; and four brothers, Karl, Edgar (Marianne), Theodore (Inez), and William (Phyllis) Mannchen. Funeral services will be held at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday, January 28, 2011, at 11 am with the Rev. Helen A. Nickel officiating. Military Honors will follow the service. A private family burial service will take place at the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery on Saturday. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday from 10 am until the time of the service at 11 am.
