Robert Abicht

Robert J. Abicht, 75, of Oostburg, WI, formerly of La Crosse, WI, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at the Sharon Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls, WI. He was born March 14, 1939, in La Crosse, to Edmund and Veronica Abicht. He graduated from Aquinas High School in 1957, St. Mary's University in Winona, MN in 1961 and the University of Wisconsin with a Master of Arts degree in 1970. He taught English in Virginia, MN, and Lake Geneva, WI and completed his career in Cedar Grove, WI after 35 years. In addition, he also taught college prep courses, directed plays and musicals, and for several years he directed the Holland Festival Musicals. He devoted much of his time and talent to the Cedar Grove High School and community. Robert is survived by a brother Ronald (Nancy) of Burnsville, MN, sisters, Joan Schmitz of Trempealeau, WI and Rita (Bill) Cockrell of Holmen, WI, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James, Richard (Jule), and Dennis (infant), nephew Paul Cockrell, and brother-in-law, Edward Schmitz. A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at 7:00 pm on Friday, August 1, 2014, at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg with Rev. Gordon Oliver officiating. Burial will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at the LaCrosse Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at 7:00 pm.
