Richard R. Dassow, 71, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dick was born on June 12, 1939 in Sheboygan, son of Carl and Gladys (Truttschel) Dassow. He was a 1957 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School. He entered the US Navy in 1957 and served until 1960, including 26 months of sea duty. On September 10, 1960 he married JoAnn Kolpin. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Dick was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls. He served on the council, was financial secretary, volunteered as usher, communion server, shut in visitor and went to Mississippi as a Katrina volunteer. Dick was a charter member of the Sheboygan Falls Jaycees and the Exhausted Roosters. He was also a member of the Sheboygan Falls Auxiliary Police and the Chamber of Commerce. Dick was employed by H.C. Prange Co., Richardson Lumber Co., Fasses Paint and B&B Ford. He enjoyed watching football, watching NASCAR, traveling and any event that involved cars. Dick is survived by his wife JoAnn (Kolpin) Dassow; one daughter Tammy Dassow of Cascade; one son Steven (Carrie) Dassow of Plymouth, two grandchildren, Alexander and Jordan; one brother, John (Nancy) Dassow of Stevens Point; two brothers-in-law, Levi Backhaus and Bill Eggebeen; one sister-in-law, Carol Kolpin. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, three sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law. A celebration of Dick's life will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010 at 6:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Mark Janzen and the Rev. Paul Koepke officiating. Inurnment will take place in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Friday from 2:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm. A memorial fund has been established in Dick's name for St. Paul Lutheran Church and for pancreatic cancer research.
