Rev. Albert VanDyke, 95, of Oostburg, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday morning, April 11, 2013, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls. Albert was born on April 18, 1917, in Chicago, the son of Dick and Margaret (Rot) VanDyke. He attended Roseland Christian School and was a 1934 graduate of Fenger High School in Chicago. Albert was a 1940 graduate of Hope College and a 1943 graduate of Western Seminary in Holland, MI. He married Lois Hall on June 18, 1943 in Lowell, Michigan. Lois passed away on February 3, 1961. Albert married Lavonne Harms on March 21, 1963 in Sheldon, Iowa. Lavonne passed away on June 9, 1983. He married Alice (Moolenaar) Pyle on December 30, 1985 in Gibbsville. Albert was Associate Pastor of First Reformed Church in Oostburg for ten years until his retirement in 1989. Prior to this, he served as Director of American Indian Ministries and churches in Matlock, IA, Sioux Falls, SD, DeMotte, IN, Sheldon, IA, and Berwyn, IL. Albert was a member of First Reformed Church in Oostburg. He was active in the Pine Haven Bible Study, Young at Heart, and the Oostburg Kiwanis. He served as Vice President and President of RCA Chicago Synod and was on the board of Northwestern College, Central College, and Western Seminary. Albert enjoyed gardening, reading, trains and railroading, travel, and taking vacations. Albert is survived by his wife, Alice; one daughter, Margaret (Robert) Morrissey of Ottumwa, IA; three sons, William (Esther) VanDyke of Sioux City, IA, Dick (Jane) VanDyke of Palos Heights, IL, and John (Joyce) VanDyke of Lima, OH; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four step-daughters, Mary (Larry) David of Davenport, IA, Linda (Henry) VanWyk of Neenah, Ruth Borchardt of Menomonee Falls, and Carol (Eric) Tribby of Simpsonville, SC; and 11 step-grandchildren. Funeral services to celebrate Albert's life will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg with Revs. Wayne DeVrou and Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will take place in Gibbsville Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Relatives and friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday from 2-5 pm, and on Monday, at church, from 9:30 until the time of the service at 10:30 am. A memorial fund has been established in Albert's name for First Reformed Church in Oostburg, Western Seminary, and Pine Haven Christian Communities.
