Rev. LeRoy A. Sandee, 89, of 819 Wilcox Street, Waupun, and formerly of Oostburg died on Wednesday morning, January 6, 2010 at Waupun Memorial Hospital. LeRoy was born on September 20, 1920 in the Town of Lima, the son of the late Walter and Mabel (DeBruine) Sandee. He graduated from Oostburg High School in 1937 and served in the US Army Air Force during World War II from 1941-45. He then graduated from Hope College and the Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan in 1947 and 1951 respectively. He married Elvira TenHaken on May 29, 1944 in Gibbsville. Rev. Sandee served as an ordained minister in the Reformed Church in America for 35 years before his retirement in 1985. During that tenure he served congregations in Monroe, SD; Alton, IA; Alto and Clinton, WI; Abbotsford, BC, Canada; and Kings, IL. Currently he was a member of the First Reformed Church in Oostburg where he was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Young at Heart. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Oostburg, Oostburg Kiwanis, Oostburg Senior Citizens and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. LeRoy enjoyed woodworking, gardening, golf, computers, photography, fishing, camping, and building radios. Earlier, he was a Ham radio operator. LeRoy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elvira, of Waupun; one daughter, Judy (Nick) Kuzulka; three sons, Robert (Sherry) of Beloit, Timothy (Marjorie) of Madison, and Mark (Debbie) Sandee of Gaithersburg, MD; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Bingen, Michael (Sandra) Kuzulka, Sara (Doug) Koerner, Rebecca, Kate, Rachel, and T. Benjamin (Elizabeth Jesse), and Matthew (fiance' Shannon) Sandee, and Amanda (Carlos) Cabrerra; seven great grandchildren, Jillian Bingen, Katie, Emmie, Alyssa Kuzulka, Ava and Jacob Koerner, and Jordan Butler; one sister, Delores Bruggink of Cedar Grove; one brother, Wayne (Carol) Sandee of Mankato, MN; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Sandee of Cedar Grove and Lois (Wayne) Dulmes of Oostburg; and two foster children, Jeffrey Loney and Pam (Dave) Stevens. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian (Norman) Tenpas and Dorothy Plopper; one brother, Roger Sandee; three brothers-in-law, Keith Bruggink, Glenn Beernink, and Ervin (Pearl) TenHaken. A celebration of Rev. Sandee's life will take place at the funeral service to be held at the First Reformed Church in Oostburg on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 1:30 pm with the Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in the Town of Holland. Friends may greet the family at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from 10am until 1 pm. There will be no visitation at church prior to the funeral service.
