Rev. Dr. Charlotte Mae Heinen, 77, of Juneau, formerly of Hingham and Zellwood Station, FL, died on Sunday night, February 8, 2014 at the Clearview Longterm Care and Rehabilitation Center in Juneau where she had resided for the past two years. Charlotte was born on March 29, 1937 in the Town of Lima, the daughter of Elmer and Christina (Huenink) Heinen. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1954 and then received her BA degree from Central College in Pella, Iowa. She taught Home Economics and French at Latimer, Iowa for two years. Charlotte was the first woman to be admitted to Western Theological Seminary in Holland, Michigan where she obtained her Master Degree in Christian Education in 1965. She was ordained as a minister with the Reformed Church of America in 1982. Charlotte served churches as Director of Christian Education in Michigan, Iowa and Florida. She was Minister of Children Ministries at the Garden Grove Community Church, also known as the Crystal Cathedral from 1969-1972, and at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Lompoc, CA. Charlotte received her PhD from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkley, CA in 1984. From 1972-1985, she was a Christian Education Consultant for churches and organizations, including David C. Cook Publishing Co. She is currently a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun. She was also a faithful supporter of the Central College Alumni Assoc. Charlotte enjoyed crafts, music, reading, gardening, flowers, and was a nursing home volunteer. Charlotte is survived by two sisters, Violet (Russell) Heinen of Warren, Indiana and Marian VanWyk of California; and one brother, Dr. Robert (Mary) Heinen of Juneau; and a very special uncle, Warren Heinen of Cedar Grove; 18 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Adrian VanWyk. A funeral to celebrate Charlotte's life will take place at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Noon with the Revs. John White, Steven Bakker, and Brian Heinen officiating. An additional memorial service is being planned for Sunday, February 15, 2015 at 11 am at Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun. Burial will take place at the Gibbsville Cemetery in the Town of Lima. Family and friends will call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the service at noon.
