Reuben Arentsen, 91, of Hingham, died on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Beach Health Care Center in Sheboygan. Reuben was born June 21, 1920, in the Town of Holland to John and Minnie Gertrude (Lammers) Arentsen. He graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1938 and Sheboygan County Normal School in 1940. Reuben taught at Liberty School for one year before serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-45. While in the service, he married Elvira Tenpas on July 28, 1944, in Oklahoma City, OK. Last year, Reuben had the opportunity to go on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. for World War II Veterans. He operated a dairy farm with Elvira in the Town of Holland for many years before moving to Hingham in 1993. Elvira died on October 30, 2000. Reuben was a lifelong member of Hingham Reformed Church. He served as Elder, Deacon, taught Sunday school and bible class, and was involved with men's brotherhood. Reuben was a member of the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau and a 60 year member of the American Legion. Reuben loved spending time with his family. He liked reading, playing cards, golf, bowling, and thoroughly enjoyed his many friends at the Oostburg and Adell senior meals. Reuben is survived by: five daughters, Barbara (Billy) Burnett of Haslet, TX, Carolyn Arentsen of Madison, Mary (Robert) Neeb of Hingham, Janice (Rodney) Blunck of Pella, IA, and Susan (John) Byrne of Moscow, ID; two sons, Ronald (Gail) Arentsen of Oostburg and Kenneth (Ruth) Arentsen of Hingham; 17 grandchildren, Andrew (Alyca) Arentsen, Eric Arentsen, Seth (Kelly) Arentsen, Scott Arentsen, Jon (Jenny) Arentsen, Ryan Arentsen, Sherri (Tristan) Hayes, Kim (Tom) Neal, John Burnett, Josh (Melissa) Neeb, Crystal (Adam) Rogahn, Megan (Peter) Boerema, Nathan Blunck, Adam Blunck, Cassie (John) Byrne-Finley, Jo (Jared) Mills, Abby Byrne; nine great-grandchildren, Holden, Olivia, Grayson, Lydia, Josiah, Bellamy, Ashleigh, Anna, Hattie, and two more on the way; one sister, Eunice (Roland) Dirkse of Oostburg; one brother, Howard (Helen) Arentsen of Milwaukee; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Arentsen of Random Lake, Donna Arentsen of Plymouth, Jan Arentsen of Germantown, Marjorie Tenpas of Sheboygan Falls; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Reuben was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elvira, his parents, and three brothers, Alan, Irwin, and Marvin Arentsen, one brother-in-law, Gordon Tenpas. Funeral services to celebrate Reuben's life will be 6:00 pm on Monday, April 9, 2012, at Hingham Reformed Church with Rev. Steven J. Bakker officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the service in the church. Private family interment will take place in Hingham Cemetery on Tuesday.
