Phyllis M. Obbink, 87, of Oostburg, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
Phyllis was born May 13, 1933 in the Town of Holland to Edwin and Garlie (nee Zeeveld) Huenink. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School in 1951. On June 18, 1952, she was united in marriage with Wesley B. Obbink at Calvary OPC in Cedar Grove. The couple ran a dairy farm in Cedar Grove for most of their lives. Wes preceded her in death in 2017.
A lifelong, dedicated member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, Phyllis was involved with leading bible class, vacation bible school, ladies groups and Sunday school and was a member of the funeral luncheon committee for many years. She and Wes were members of the Sheboygan County Farm Bureau, and enjoyed representing the organization at the county fair booth each year. Phyllis enjoyed golfing, playing cards with family and traveling with her husband Wes, especially trips to Florida, Arizona and Europe for their 50th anniversary.
Phyllis is survived by her son David (Cindy) Obbink; daughter-in-law Carla Obbink; six grandchildren: Jacob (Melissa) Obbink, Samantha (Jon) Fredach, Ross (Holly) Obbink, Jo Ellen (Peter) DeHaai, Jaclyn (Steve) Ratajczak and Melanie (fiance Brayden Van Ess) Obbink. She is further survived by 11 great-grandchildren: Hayden, Landon, Camryn, Owen, Noah, Levi, Micah, Isaac, Anne Marie, Carly and Ivy; sisters-in-law Gertrude Graaskamp and Marge Obbink; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Wes; son Brian Obbink; granddaughter Megan Obbink; parents; brothers Carroll (Ellen) Huenink and La Mont Huenink; parents-in-law Harry and Henrietta Obbink; brothers-in-law Harlan Obbink, Leon (Ruth) Obbink, Winifred Graaskamp and Harold Simmelink.
A funeral service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 11:30AM at Calvary OPC, 136 Union Ave, Cedar Grove with Rev. David Cornette officiating. Burial will take place at Presbyterian Cemetery in Cedar Grove. Relatives and friends may greet the family at church on Monday morning from 10:30AM-11:30AM.
A memorial fund is being established in her name for Oostburg Christian School
