Phyllis Huibregtse

Phyllis Mae Huibregtse, 84, of Cedar Grove entered into eternal life on Saturday, September 17, 2016. Phyllis was born March 5, 1932, to Edward and Nellie (Brill) Kappers. She was a graduate of Oostburg High School, class of 1950. She was also a graduate of The Technical School of Sheboygan in cosmetology. She worked at Posy's House of Beauty in Sheboygan and later at Cedar Grove Variety Store. Phyllis married Carl Huibregtse on December 30, 1952, in Oostburg, WI, and they returned to San Francisco where Carl was stationed with the Marine Corps. After Carl's discharge in 1954, they moved back to Cedar Grove. As a teenager, she remembered picking beans in the fields. She enjoyed working a large garden at home and with Carl's mother, Ellen, on the Huibregtse farm. She enjoyed picking, canning, and freezing vegetables and fruits. As a young mother, she remembered cutting fabric strips and rolling fabric balls with Ellen and brother-in-law Norbie for rag rugs. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her other hobbies included sewing, knitting, quilting, and cross stitching. She sewed much of her children's clothes and gave many of her projects to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Phyllis and Carl enjoyed trips with friends and family to Canada and many states including Hawaii and Alaska. Time spent in northern Wisconsin at "The Shack" and their cottage on Lake Mary provided many memories of snowmobiling, fishing, card games and relaxing. Phyllis and Carl supported the activities of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where she taught Sunday School, VBS, served on Ladies Aid and visited people in the nursing homes. Phyllis is survived by three daughters, Lynn (Mark) Huenink of Appleton, Gail (Dennis) Prinsen of Manchester, IA, Kay (Steve) Veldhorst of Neenah, and one son, Dean, of Cedar Grove. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Gregory (Bridget) Huenink of Appleton, Kristine (Brian) Altena of Little River, SC, Kimberlyn (Ryan) Grams of Cambridge, MA, Kara (Creed) Darling of Muskego, WI, Kelli (Dan) Rado of Waukesha, WI, Andrew (Courtney) Prinsen of Clinton, IA, Emily (Brian) Roberts of Kansas City, MO, Amy (Brian) Bauknecht of Plover, WI, Katelyn (fiancé Joe Lutz) and Bradley Veldhorst of Neenah; fifteen great-grandchildren; Geoffrey and Jonathan Huenink, Kirali, Mikayla, and Tristan Altena, Henrik Grams, Maelee, Liam, Graeme, Mila and Eli Darling, Madelynn and Bennett Rado, Conner Prinsen and Elijah Roberts. She is further survived by two sisters; Minnie Dykstra of Hingham and Marge (Bud) Obbink, and one brother, John (Charlotte) Kappers, all of Oostburg, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be greeted in heaven by her husband, Carl, her parents, Carl's parents, Anthony and Ellen (Prinsen) Huibregtse, her sister, Janet (Howie) TeBeest, her brother-in-law Willard Dykstra, her three sisters-in-law, Wilma (Allie) DeMaster, Muriel (Lester) Meeusen, Elenore (Dale) Lammers and two brothers-in-law, Norbert Huibregtse and Gordon (Muriel) Huibregtse; niece Janelle Leung, nephew Jim DeMaster and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services to celebrate Phyllis' life will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. Al Schut officiating. Relatives and friends may call at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, WI on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, from 2 pm until the time of the service at 6 pm. Burial will take place with the family in the Cedar Grove Cemetery on Wednesday morning, September 21, 2016, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for First Reformed Church of Cedar Grove.
