Rev. Philip A. Rauwerdink, 71, of Sheboygan, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice. Philip was born on December 31, 1944, in Sheboygan, son of Irving T. and Hazel J. (Back) Rauwerdink. He was a 1963 graduate of Sheboygan North High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Hope College in 1968. He was a realtor for Gottsacker Real Estate in Sheboygan and Stark Real Estate in Madison. Phil later received his Master's degree from Western Theological Seminary in Holland, MI in 1988. In 1989, Phil became the minister at Glendale Reformed Church in Glendale, NY for ten years and then was an interim minister for 17 years for the Reformed Church across the country. Upon his retirement he returned as a member to Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan where he served as Congregational Care Pastor for the past six years. He provided shut-ins and nursing home residents with support, prayer, and spiritual guidance as they continued their pilgrim journey through this life and prepared them for the everlasting life that follows. He was a member of the OKE Fraternity at Hope College and when he was with Gottsacker Realty he was named realtor of the year in 1980. Philip was an avid reader and movie enthusiast; he enjoyed watching all sports, including football, basketball, tennis, and golf. He loved to spend time with classmates, family, and friends, and reminisce about high school, football, theatrics, lifeguarding, travel, and family. Philip enjoyed his adventures with family and friends to Europe, Hawaii, Australia, South America, and the Caribbean. Philip is survived by his sister, Sue Zeier of Sheboygan; his two brothers, Carl (Judy) Rauwerdink of Malone and Dale (Wendy) Rauwerdink of Howards Grove; two aunts, Mildred Rauwerdink and Delores Back; three nieces, Dawn Wrensch of Sheboygan, Kristin (Michael) Cunniff of Boston, MA, and Kelly Rauwerdink of Madison; two nephews, Todd (Lori) Zeier of Sheboygan and Thomas Rauwerdink of Howards Grove; and four grand-nieces, Lindsay Wrensch, Kayla Zeier, Larrissa Wrensch, and Scarlett Cunniff. Philip was preceded in death by his parents; one brother-in-law, Larry Zeier; grandniece, Haley Haen; and aunts and uncles, Harold Rauwerdink, Donald (Iris) Rauwerdink, John (Joan) Rauwerdink, Howard Back, Hank (Lucille) Back, Wilfred (Gladys) Huenink, John (Alda) Swart, and Alfred (Frances) DeRuyter. Funeral services to celebrate Philip's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Hope Reformed Church in Sheboygan with Rev. William TeWinkel officiating. Burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in the Town of Wilson. Relatives and friends may gather at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Monday, April 18, 2016, from 4:00 until 8:00 pm and also on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am.
