Peter Koskamp

Peter S. Koskamp, 90, of Independence, Iowa died Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence, Iowa. Peter was born on March 14, 1924, in Hingham, Wisconsin the son of Arthur J. and Martha B. (Swart) Koskamp. He graduated from the Oostburg High School in Oostburg, WI. Following his graduation he became employed as a cheese maker with the H.J. Dirkse Cheese Factory in Hingham. On March 13, 1944 he entered the US Navy serving until his discharge on May 5th, 1946. He returned to Oostburg, Wisconsin where On October 12, 1945 he was united into marriage to Anna J. Hendrikse. The family lived in the Oostburg area until moving to Independence, Iowa 1967 where he became employed with Waspi Valley Creamery as the head cheese maker until his retirement in 1986 Peter is survived by three children; Dianne (Gerald) Liebenstein, Normal, Illinois, Susan (Donald) DeKok, Alton, Iowa, and Thomas (Donna) Koskamp, Independence, Iowa, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters; Mary Thiel, Hingham, Wisconsin, Jane Ratmeyer, Atlanta, Georgia, and two brothers; Aaron Koskamp, Pella, Iowa, and Paul Koskamp, Port Washington, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna Koskamp in 2011, and a brother; James Koskamp. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Am Tuesday, March 25th, 2014 at the Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg, WI, where friends may call from 9 AM till services Tuesday. Burial will be in the Hingham Cemetery, Hingham, WI. The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of local arrangements.
